ACCO Museum Archive & Specimen Collections
Welcome to the ACCO Natural Sciences Museum:
This section showcases all non-living specimens & replicas within our personal collections that will be utilized for educational outreach.
All specimens from once-living species were ethically collected: meaning they either originate from naturally shed materials during husbandry services (i.e. hair/fur, teeth, quills, infertile eggs, etc.,), or for our osteological specimens and/or pelts, they were purchased from previously culled individuals (legalized population management through govt. regulated hunting). No specimens in our collection represent "order to kill" purchases: meaning that no animals were killed on demand from purchase of byproducts. For the case of this category, the specimens in our collection were purchased after the animal had already been culled and listed for availability. That is why part of our mission views these specimens as "ambassadors," representing the necessity for protecting their living kin within accredited captive settings or threatened individuals in the wild.
We encourage further questions for the ethics of our practices if the public shares concerns. Animal welfare within guidelines of the modern era is our top priority.
