Pleistocene Kankakee &
Lost Habitats

Kankakee County is known for its historical past regarding people, but it also has a significant and deep "geologic" history as well:

Discover the magnificent large-scale Megafauna like Mammoths & Mastodons, that once roamed lands of frozen tundra and how those habitats became the

fields of corn & soybeans, today.

Learn about what other species, like infamous prowling predators, that once existed in the neighboring Midwestern states!

Mourn the loss of the "Forgotten Five" species that once existed in the state of IL and the Midwest until the late 1800's when they were tragically exterminated, along with the removal of our Midwestern "Everglade" ecosystem.

Lastly, learn about the state-endangered species we have today that need our help, before they become statewide EXINCT.
